WHAT'S GOING ON IN YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS?
4th Annual County Trail Summit: On May 14th, 2002, South County and I celebrated the 4th Annual County Trail Summit. It was created four years ago in order to bring trail users from all over the county together to learn about, discuss and improve the trails system. This year's Summit featured a variety of workshops and presentations regarding hiking, biking and equestrian trail use. The internationally recognized dynamic speaker and former Olympian, Peter Vidmar, also highlighted the evening. The theme was "A Trail System for Everyone," and it truly captured the atmosphere and mood for everyone that night.
The outcome of this event was the creation of the Universal Trail Assessment Program (UTAP). UTAP allows South County residents to receive logistics of the trail and decide for themselves if the trail is right for them. All in all, it is a collaborative effort to make sure that all groups will continue to work together to preserve these beautiful trails.
