Message from the Supervisor…….

From my first day as an Orange County Supervisor, I have been deeply involved in maintaining and enhancing the quality of life which drew many of us to Southern California. This quality we have enjoyed was being threatened by a plan to bring a large international airport to the center of the county. For many years, the battle over the reuse of former MCAS El Toro raged on, causing extreme divisiveness for residents on both sides of the debate. We can now say that battle is over!

On March 5, 2002, Orange County residents passed Measure W, rezoning the El Toro property for non-aviation reuse. The County is now working with the Department of the Navy, the General Services Administration and the City of Irvine for final disposal of the property from the federal government to the County. Irvine is pursuing annexation of the property and is planning to have its application reach the Board of Supervisors in the spring of 2003.

I look forward to the new few months as a final non-aviation reuse plan is developed for El Toro which will further enhance our Orange County quality of life.
