REGIONAL PARKS

South County has some of the most beautiful regional parks in all of Orange County. The pristine lakes, shady trees, vast canyons and grassy fields that make up these parks are protected by the Central/Coastal Orange County NCCP. This committee provides long-term regulatory certainty to the private sector while adaptively managing the preserve lands to enhance the species and natural communities that reside there.

Central Orange County has currently set aside a 38,000 acre natural reserve that protects nearly 40 rare species and several natural communities. Of this land, 17,000 of these acres are public and 21,000 acres are private. Here in South County, the acreage is expected to be even larger, protecting more than 41,000 acres - allowing large tracts of undisturbed land to remain so forever. This land will provide a sensitive habitat and wildlife connection to the National Forest and to our own wilderness parks and reserves. It must protect the natural habitat, wetlands and open space while still providing opportunities for our future.

Let's work together to continue to preserve these beautiful parks. We need to ensure that future generations of Orange Countians can enjoy these same natural wildlife preserves. Please continue to do your part and respect the surrounding habitat around you. For more information about a park closest to you, check out Orange County's Harbors, Beaches and Parks Website
