CHAIRMAN WILSON GETS SECOND TERM

Today, Supervisor Tom Wilson was elected Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors for a second term.
“I am pleased my colleagues supported me as Chairman again. We have a lot going on in this County and I look forward to continuing with the leadership necessary to keep us together”, stated Wilson.

The vote was again unanimous in favor of Wilson after being nominated by Supervisor Bill Campbell, 3rd District. In previous years, Wilson was repeatedly denied the Chairmanship because of his unswerving views on the reuse of El Toro. After continued frustration over the direction the County was heading with the pro-airport leadership, Wilson was able to finagle the Vice Chairman position for many years, slowing down the disastrous progress of the Board majority.

Supervisor Campbell noted during his nomination, “The Board can be proud of what it accomplished in 2003 under the leadership” and went on to cite: public safety accomplishments; overcoming a number of financial challenges including implementing procedures to protect our bankruptcy recovery plan; and progress in large County projects, which includes the Chairman leading the demise of the El Toro airport and moving forward with the annexation of the former base to Irvine.

“Obviously the Board is on the right track; otherwise this would have been more of a discussion. We’re a diverse Board who is not afraid to speak up. This affirms that as tough as last year was, my colleagues believed in me and look to me to lead the County through all of the uncertainties. I began last year cleaning house, and getting the County back on track. Now that I have been reelected I will be able to implement even more changes that I have initiated and we will see the County come out even better in the end”, stated Wilson.

Supervisor Wilson will deliver the State of the County on January 27, 2004.
