County Launches Live Internet Access to Board Meetings

(Santa Ana, CA) - Board of Supervisors Chairman Chris Norby announced today that the County will begin live Internet broadcast of meetings of the Orange County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, May 22 at 9:30 a.m. Live streaming video of the Board meetings as well as archives of past meetings since January 2007 will be available at http://ocvideo.ocgov.com.

After each Board meeting, video-on-demand will be posted online with an accompanying agenda about two hours after the conclusion of the meeting. Internet users will also be able to search Board meeting broadcasts since January of this year by subject, keyword, or agenda item number. In addition, Internet broadcasts will feature closed captioning for the special needs of an estimated 25% of the population that is hearing impaired and can benefit from watching captioned Board meetings.

“The job of government is to serve the people and this new tool will do just that” said Supervisor Chris Norby. “County residents can now watch decisions being made that impact their daily lives from any computer with Internet access.”

The Internet broadcast closed captioning and production of the meetings is being provided by Encino-based GovTV, a private firm that specializes in broadcasting local government on television and the Internet.
