OC JOB FAIR TO BOOST ECONOMIC RECOVERY
(Santa Ana) Employers can register for free exhibition space at the first Orange County Economic Recovery Job Fair scheduled for noon to 6 p.m., February 27 at the Anaheim Convention Center located at 800 W. Katella Avenue. Exhibit spaces should be reserved by January 31.

The job and resource fair to help put Orange County back to work is free to both exhibitors and attendees. As an extra incentive to register, exhibitors will receive a complementary lunch and parking pass for participating.

Responding to Orange County layoffs last year that totaled more than 10,000 workers, the Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) of Orange County, Anaheim and Santa Ana collaborated with community service agencies, faith-based and non-profit organizations to develop a resource job fair for displaced workers. The WIBs are responsible for economic and workforce development.

"By helping workers to once more find productive employment, we can build an even stronger Orange County economy," said Cynthia P. Coad, Chair, Orange County Board of Supervisors. "The Orange County Economic Recovery Job Fair will be an important part of the recovery process."

In addition to providing job seekers the opportunity to meet employers, information about core support service programs will be provided. Representatives from County agencies, faith-based and non-profit organizations will explain the process of obtaining assistance for available support services such as subsidized child care, food stamps, job training, and debt-management counseling.

Representatives from job training programs and community colleges will also be on hand to explain the process of enrollment, registration and how to obtain financial aid.

According to the Dislocated Worker Economic Impact Report (January 1 – October 9, 2001), there are two sources for displaced workers. One source is the general downturn in the economy that has affected the aerospace, financial services, e-commerce, retail and manufacturing industries locally. The other source is attributed the September 11 terrorist attack. That source has impacted the local hotel, airline, and tourism industries. The report is provided online at the Community Services Agency, Special Programs site at www.ocwib.org.

Requests to register for exhibit space should be directed to Mark Mathews, Orange County Workforce Investment Board via fax at 714.834.7132, or via electronic mail to mmathews@csa.co.orange.ca.us
