History of the
Orange County Marshal's Department

Anaheim Township’s
First Marshal

The City of Anaheim shares some similar history with the Marshal’s Department. In 1870, Anaheim appointed it’s first town Marshal, while still a part of Los Angeles County. Orange County would not form until 1889.

In 1872, Marshal Charles Lehman was summoned to a disturbance to quell a card game fight that involved the Marshal. Marshal Lehman was the victim of gunfire that erupted between two of the men involved in the fight, and died two days later.
