THE ON-LINE CATALOG is a listing of books, government documents, periodicals and non-print material, such as microfiche or audiocassettes, owned by the Orange County Public Law Library. It contains complete bibliographic information, location, call number, and circulation status for each item.
REFERENCE ASSISTANCE is available at the Public Services counter. The Reference staff will provide reference and assistance in locating treatises, cases, statutes, codes and regulations pertaining to a legal matter. However, the staff is unable to interpret statutes, cases, or regulations, or advise patrons regarding their legal rights. We invite you to visit our list of legal reference links to the WEB.
Ask a Librarian! - Our e-mail reference service is for people who cannot get to our library because of distance or time constraints.
LEGAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS from both networked CD-ROM and online subscriptions such as BNA, CCH, CEB and CA Library to name but a few are available from 8 public workstations. Downloading to floppy and flash-drive is free; printing is 15¢ a page. Some programs allow sending research to an email address using your own personal subscribed online email. The library's subscription to online legal research databases are only accessible in house from the 8 public computers at the Library. Printing is15¢ a page.
There is one stand-alone CD-ROM viewing station
for the public who wish to view the CD-ROM titles that are not networked
and do not circulate.
INTERNET ACCESS
- The Library offers free
Internet access to both the legal community and the public
for legal research from 8 public stations.
Please note:
The reliability of our computer network is given
a very high priority. But from time to time routine network
maintenance or power outages may cause the computer network to
be shut down. The public computers are not available on Tuesday
from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon. In addition, computers are shut down
15 minutes prior to closing (Monday-Thursday 7:45 PM, Friday and Saturday 4:45
PM). We suggest that you call ahead to
verify the Computer Based Services are available.
CIRCULATION - Any person who qualifies to register may borrow material from the Library. Any resident, Judge, Official of Orange County or an Attorney who resides or has a law office in Orange County may register as a borrower. Ordinarily, all materials except reference books, loose-leaf services, statutes, digests, or citators may be borrowed. Books and other materials are loaned for a period of 14 days. A fine of $1.00 a day is charged for each overdue item.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICE - The Orange County Public Law Library provides Interlibrary Loan service for all patrons who are registered with the Law Library.
GOVERNMENT DEPOSITORY COLLECTION -The Orange County Law Library is a selective federal and state depository library. The Library has acquired materials primarily of value in legal research, as well as agency publications and statistical and historical information.
CONFERENCE ROOMS - The library has two conference rooms available for use by the public.
PHOTOCOPIERS - Five copiers are available for use in the Law Library. The cost per copy is 15¢.
FAX AND DOCUMENT DELIVERY SERVICE is also available.
TYPEWRITERS (electric) are available for public use at the Law Library. They are coin operated and cost 25¢ per 20 minutes.
WORD PROCESSING - There is a public computer with Microsoft Office 2003 for public use at the Law Library. It requires a copy card to operate, costs $5.00 per hour for word processing and 15¢ a page to print.
SUPPLIES - Typing paper, pleading paper, pens, pencils, envelopes, 3.5" floppy disks and 2 Gigabyte Flash Drives are available for purchase at the Public Services counter for your convenience. No copy card is required.
TOURS are offered to groups or classes who have an interest in becoming familiar with the Law Library. Group tours may be arranged by calling (714) 834-3397 or writing the Public Services Librarian at least one week in advance of the requested tour date. Tours may be arranged for any hours in which the Library is open and are limited to 15 people. Please click the TOURS link to email, fax or mail the form.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Volunteer opportunities are available at the Orange County Public Law Library. Volunteers are a valuable resource, and perform a variety of tasks throughout the Library, such as shelving, processing library materials and other library work as needed. If you are at least 18 years of age and interested in volunteering at the Law Library, you may obtain an application by clicking on the Volunteer Opportunities link above or by mail at the address below and an application will be sent to you.
