The Library's Computer Menu
The Library's computer menu screen starts with a scrolling marquee, which welcomes each user to the Law Library and provides information about the use of the public stations.  The menu prominently presents our online Library Catalog as well as links to our legal research guides and useful legal research Web links.  The Electronic Legal Research Guide section contains direct links to legal research programs to which the library subscribes.   Many of these programs links allow searching of full text legal treatises, court opinions, journals and periodicals.  Other programs feature access to federal and state court cases, plus court rules, maps and other information about California courthouses.

Ask a Librarian! on the Web
Sometimes you may be too busy or too far away to get to our Library.  We are offering certain Library services from our Web page.  The first of these services, "Ask a Librarian", is an online e-form by which you may ask us legal reference questions.   Your questions will be answered by return e-mail.   Just click on the "Ask a Librarian" title above to begin.

Real-time 24/7 Legal Reference Service on the Web
Since April 2002, the Orange County Public Law Library has been participating in a pilot project to provide real time legal reference service via the internet.  Our reference librarians are fielding law-related questions and guiding the patron's browser to the best resources on the Internet with collaborative browsing. This project, called 24/7, answers law-related questions originating with the public.  OCPLL volunteers 10 hours per week to the project.

U.S. COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE 9TH CIRCUIT
The Findlaw site has 9th Circuit opinions from 1996 to present; JuriSearch has the opinions back to 1990; and the U.S. Court of Appeals site covers 1995 to present.  In addition, the slip opinions appear on the U.S. Court of Appeals site by 12 noon on the day of release.  To find the links to these sites go to our Federal Law Research Guide or the Federal Courts page.

PUBLIC CD-ROM VIEWING STATION
A computer workstation is available to view our CD-ROM program titles.  Some of these legal research programs are available to check out.  You will find a list of these titles near the CD-ROM viewing station.  Using this station is free; however, printing is 15¢ per page. For additional computer based online and networked legal research check out our list of available subscriptions.

PUBLIC WORD PROCESSING STATION
A public word processing computer is available in the copier room with Microsoft Office 2003 suite.   There is a cost of $5.00 an hour to use the computer which does not include the 15¢ per page for printing.  Downloading is not available from this station.  The charges are deducted from a copy card, which may be purchased at the library.
