Intern Position Description
Position Title: Governmental/Administrative Aide (unpaid internship)

Name and Location of Agency/Department Requesting Intern:
Several County of Orange agencies/departments offer placement in or near Santa Ana, CA.

Functions of Agency/Department:
The County of Orange is a collection of dedicated, public-spirited individuals, who together comprise a regional service provider and planning agency committed to maximizing resources and improving the quality of life in Orange County. Our core businesses are public safety, public health, environmental protection, regional planning, public assistance, social services and aviation.

Intern Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist staff in the day-to day activities within a busy governmental agency or department. Duties may include: answering inquiries by phone and through written communications; assisting clients and/or the public; preparing documents and reports; participating in research assignments; conducting surveys; gathering and analyzing data; coordinating community outreach; updating and creating resource material and interacting with other governmental and community based organizations.

Educational Requirements:
This internship is best suited for students majoring in the following areas: Political Science, Communications, Law, Public Administration, Social Ecology, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Health Care, Social/Human Services, Business/Accounting, Finance, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Environmental Planning or related fields.

Skills, Training or Qualifications:
Excellent written and oral communication skills, computer literate, reliable, neat appearance, interest in public service.

Time Commitment:
Minimum 10 – 15 hours per week for 3 to 6 months. Hours must be scheduled in 3- to 5-hour blocks of time during regular business hours (Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.). Summer internships are available. Applicants willing to work additional hours typically gain a more in-depth experience.
