Intern Position Description
Position Title: Human Resource Aide (unpaid internship)

Functions of Agency/Department:
Orange County Human Resources (OCHR) is comprised of the Human Resources Department (HRD) and Agency/Department human resources practitioners.
HRD establishes the appropriate framework within which County agencies/departments can competitively attract and retain the most qualified employees available, effectively manage the performance of existing employees and minimize County liability and legal exposure in Human Resources (HR) matters.
Employee Relations negotiates and administers labor agreements.
Agency/Department HR practitioners provide operational support services to 22 agencies and departments whose core business are public safety, public health, environmental protection, regional planning, public assistance, social services and aviation.
Assist Human Resources staff working for a large public organization. Duties may include, but are not limited to: participating in research assignments and assisting in Countywide HR projects/initiatives; designing and conducting surveys; evaluating various processes and/or data; analyzing, summarizing and preparing written recommendations relative to information gathered; preparing documents and reports; updating and creating resource material; and interacting with other governmental jurisdictions.
This internship is best suited for upper division or graduate students or recent graduates majoring in the following areas: Human Resources, Employment Law, Psychology (including Industrial/Organizational) or related fields.
Skills, Training or Qualifications:
Effective organizational skills
Work independently within parameters of training provided
Depending on assignment, may be required to provide own
method of transportation to conduct research/analysis
Identify pertinent issues
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Computer literate (proficient with MS Office Suite or equivalent)
Work well with all levels of staff
Minimum 15 hours per week for 3 months for corporate assignments. Department assignments require 12 – 20 hours per week for a 3 – 6 month period. Flexible hours available between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Summer internships are available. Applicants willing to work additional hours typically gain a more in-depth experience.
