Student Internships
Intern Position Description - Community Building Team Internship (unpaid internship)

Agency Description: The OC Human Relations Commission and Council provide programs to foster mutual understanding and respect among residents in order to make Orange County a better place for ALL people to live, work and do business. We strive to create a future where our county’s diversity is realized as a source of our strength and build bridges of understanding to make our community a place where all people are valued and included. 

Hours:             Flexible schedule, mornings, afternoons and/or evenings, depending on focus projects. We require an intern to commit to 120 hours per semester. There are also summer internships and two-semester internships available.

Deadline:          Open; on-going.

Certificate:       Interns will receive a Certificate of Completion verifying that they have completed a 120-hour internship with OC Human Relations.

Qualifications: Ability to work with diverse individuals/cultures in a diplomatic and non-biased manner. It is important to be able to deal respectfully with sensitive issues involving divergent viewpoints. Good oral and written communication skills and an interest in human relations issues are a must. Bilingual skills are a definite asset. 

Description of Projects in Community Building Team: 

  1. Hate Crime
    • To create community awareness, increase collaboration for community and police response , and assist primary and secondary victims of hate
  2. Police Community Relations
    • To improve the relationship between communities and law enforcemen
  3. Community Dialogues
    • To create a safe environment for people to dialogue and develop action steps to make community connections and engage in civic activities.
  4. Cultural Competency Development
    • To create awareness of diversity issue and develop intercultural understanding for groups and institutions.
  5. Community Leadership Development
    • To provide grassroots leadership training and recognize outstanding human relations contributions
  6. Organizational Support
    • To strengthen, support and connect with community organizations and efforts.
  7. Grant Research
    • To research funding opportunities for OC Human Relations
  8. General Office Work
    • Organizing Team Resource Materials – assisting team with compiling, organizing and categorizing training and resource materials.
