Position Description:
Position Title: IT Service Desk Technician (unpaid internship)
 
Name and Location of Agency/Department Requesting Intern:
Health Care Agency Information Technology Division
Administrative office located in Santa Ana, CA 92701
 
Functions of Agency/Department:
The Health Care Agency Information Technology Division supports the technology utilized by agency personnel in serving the residents of Orange County.

The Health Care Agency is a regional provider, charged with protecting and promoting individual, family and community health through coordination of public and private sector resources. Some examples of services include food protection, hazardous waste regulation, protection from animal-related diseases, water quality monitoring and pollution prevention, mental health services, alcohol and drug abuse services, preventive health services for the aging, healthcare for incarcerated individuals, communicable disease control, child health and disability program, immunizations, public health field nursing and public health clinics.
 
Intern Duties/Responsibilities:
Interns will primarily assist customers via the telephone. Interns must be comfortable answering phones, have knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Suite and have basic troubleshooting skills using remote tools SMS or VNC. Interns will assist with customer mapping to network shares, connecting to network printers and configuring outlook profiles.

Duties include:
  • Resetting network accounts
  • Software installations and upgrades
  • Technical documentation
  • Troubleshoot MS Office 2000, 2003, and 2007 issues
  • Troubleshoot Windows 2000 and Windows XP issues
  • Troubleshoot local and network printing issues
Educational Requirements:
This internship is best suited for students (junior or senior level) enrolled in an accredited college/university or recent graduates. The applicant must be pursuing or have completed a degree in Information Systems.
 
Skills, Training or Qualifications:
Applicants must have excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work independently; ability to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner. Business attire is required.
 
Time Commitment:
Minimum 10 - 15 hours per week for 3 or more months. Hours must be scheduled during regular business hours (Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.). Summer internships are available. Applicants willing to work additional hours or for a longer duration typically gain a more in-depth experience.
