Intern Position Title:
Position Title: Graphic Art/Design Intern (unpaid internship)

Functions of Agency/Department: :
The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner Forensic Science Services (FSS) is the primary crime laboratory serving the entire county of Orange, including police agencies, District Attorneys, law enforcement organizations and courts. Forensic Science Services is a full service laboratory with the following operations: crime scene investigation, DNA, toxicology, trace, firearms, identification and fingerprinting, photo lab, controlled substances, and information systems. Intern Duties/Responsibilities:
FSS provides numerous Web sites for both the public and internal County agencies. Additionally, most network and computer applications are developed in-house by software teams. Interns will design logos and graphics for the FSS Web sites and also design icons, bitmaps and glyphs for internal applications.

Educational Requirements:
This position is best suited for students or recent graduates with art and graphic design experience, particularly with digital design experience, including Web graphics, icons and bitmaps.

Skills, Training or Qualifications:
Experience in designing Web site graphics, icons, bitmaps, glyphs and digital images. Proficient in using various computer graphics applications such as Photoshop and Web design tools such as FrontPage. We are seeking applicants who can enhance the division's current Web site (http://www.sheriff-forensics.ocgov.com/) through their artistic and creative skills and expertise.

Time Commitment:
Minimum ten hours per week for three or more months. Hours are negotiable. For a more in-depth experience, applicants are encouraged to commit to additional hours and/or a longer internship. Interns may also opt to work off site for a portion of their hours, but a minimum of 25 percent of their time must be scheduled on site at the FSS office. Summer internships are available.

Although this is an unpaid position, students and recent graduates are offered an excellent opportunity to build their resumes and portfolios, develop career skills and explore career options. Additionally, interns can reference publicly visible Web sites as examples of their work.

Required Background Investigation:
Background investigations will be conducted on applicants who wish to complete an internship with FSS.
