Student Internships
Position Description:
Position Title: CAD Assistant (unpaid internship)
 
Name and Location of Agency/Department Requesting Intern:
Harbors, Beaches and Parks (HBP) Design Section
HBP is a division of Resources and Development Management Department (RDMD)
Santa Ana, CA 92701
 
Functions of Agency/Department:
RDMD/HBP operates regional recreational facilities and manages historical and natural resources. These 33,000 acres of parkland and open space include regional and wilderness parks, nature preserves and recreational trails, historic sites, and harbors and beaches. HBP Design Section produces the planning and design documents that are used to construct, operate and manage the County's open spaces. Intern Duties/Responsibilities:
The Intern will assist HBP Design Section staff with production of graphic exhibits, CAD drawings, reports, letters, memos, spreadsheets, and specifications. Duties will include the following:
  • Produce electronic files for construction plans, specifications and reports
  • Prepare graphics for reports, exhibits and maps using scanned images and photos
  • Prepare presentation exhibit boards and PowerPoint presentations
Educational Requirements:
The internship is best suited for students or recent graduates with knowledge/experience in computer graphics, graphic art, and design-related fields.
 
Skills, Training or Qualifications:
Knowledge and intermediate proficiency in the following computer programs: CAD software (Microstation), Adobe Graphics software (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
 
Time Commitment:
Minimum 12 – 15 hours per week for 3 months. Hours must be scheduled during regular business hours (Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.). Summer internships are available. Applicants willing to work additional hours or for a longer duration typically gain a more in-depth experience.
